Last Minute Trip to Germany

As I reflect on what I have done so far this year, trying to catch my blog up to current times, I will be repeating what some people already know.  But with the blog comes details that a Reel or a post on Instagram does not give.

As I mentioned, I work at a Hospital.  Not any hospital.  But a brand new Childrens Hospital.  We put in many long hours getting everything ready for it to open.  I was training at one Hospital until the new one was ready.  I got hired on December 4, 2023.  And the new Hospital opened on February 12, 2024.  I was the last of the group to get hired.  So I was a few months behind everyone else when it comes to knowledge of the job.  While they were all over at the new hospital getting things done, I stayed at the other one to continue to learn.  While training, I was working Monday - Friday 8am -4:30pm.  But that is not what I was hired for.  I work three 12 and 1/2 hour shifts.

The Friday before the Hospital opened, they announced that everyone would start working their assigned shifts starting on Monday, the day the hospital opened.  That meant that I had 7 days off.  I decided right then and there I needed to get away and go somewhere.

I spent HOURS laying in bed trying to decide where to go.  It was too late to book a cruise.  I had to have so many days ahead of time.  I looked into Hawaii.  I looked into Florida.  And I kept getting Germany in my head.  And it was a thought I couldn't get away from.  I looked everything up.  I kept talking myself out of it.  It really isn't worth traveling so far for such a short amount of time.  I had to be back to work Friday Morning.  For those that don't know, I lived in Germany for awhile.  So I have many friends there.

In the end, at 11:45pm Friday night,  I booked a flight to Germany.  And at 8am Saturday Morning, my plane took off for Chicago.  I arrived into Germany on Sunday Morning.  My plan was to rent a car, go to Church at 9am.  And then head over and surprise my friend.  Not one single soul in Germany knew I was coming.  It was such a last minute decision and I decided to just make it fun!

I got to church and no one was there.  I was so confused.  I couldn't figure out what was going on.  The internet told me 9am.  But found out later it was at 10am.  My surprise was thwarted as I messaged a friend to find out what was going on.  Because church didn't start, I went to my friends house.  I rang her doorbell.  She was still in bed but her son and her husband answered.  Shocked to see me, they quietly went and got my friend out of bed.  Once again, pure shock!  It was amazing!

I spent 4 glorious days in Germany.  It was Carnival time there.  So we went to Parades and we went to Parties.  I had no idea I was coming during that time.  But it made it all that much more enjoyable.  I ate all the baked goods from all the bakeries.  I usually have a list of things I want to eat while I am there.  Doner Kebabs.  Can't forget those. They are the best!

In the end, I left 4 short days after I got there.  It was a whirlwind of a trip.  But it was so so good for me.  My heart needed that trip more than I ever knew.  It helped to repair a few broken pieces in my heart.  Who knew!

I made a Reel on Instagram and Tik Tok highlighting the trip.

Alexandra Kay

When I found out about the divorce, I heard about this Country Music Artist named, Alexandra Kay.  She went through a divorce herself and wrote a whole album about her experiences.  It became my staple when listening to music.  I could not get enough.  I connected with her and her music.  Although there was one vast difference, she left her husband where mine left me.   One day, she posted that she was going on tour again.  She was going to Colorado Springs.  That was the closest thing to Salt Lake City.  I tossed around the idea of going out there.  And when it came time for tickets to go on sale, I bought that concert ticket.  Then I booked my flight, car rental and hotel.  I could not believe I was going to this.  I guess that is one thing about being divorced.  I decide what I am going to do and when.  And I decided just to do it.  (kind of similar to my Germany trip I took in February).   I have wo...

Welcome to The Traveling Wheels Blog

Hi!  I am new here.  Well, not really new to the blogging world.  But it has been a good 13 years since I did that.  My name is Tamara.  I have always had a passion for traveling.  When I was in middle school, I remember we were to pick out careers we wanted to go into.  I chose a Flight Attendant.  I never did become that flight attendant,  I have toyed over the last couple years if I want to pursue that still.  But right now, I need to stay put and be a mom while my youngest finishes out High School.  So I never say never.  But I did work for an airline and also for a Travel Agency before I had kids. Like I said, I love all things travel.  I have traveled to many countries.  I even lived abroad for almost 8 years.  I love to cruise.  I have lost count on how many I have been on.  I do road trips, camping.  I just love being out and about seeing this beautiful world.  If I go hiking, yo...

Renting out a Room

As you know, I work in Healthcare at a Hospital.  There are lots of Healthcare workers who travel.  They usually have 13 week contracts and then move to another place to work.  They get paid nicely for traveling.  Well, I started getting my house ready to rent out a room to a traveling Healthcare worker.  I took my daughters old room.  And I added a few things to make it nicer.  Starting with a bed frame.  Her bed used to just sit on the floor.  I added Night Stands, a desk, Roku to the TV that is mounted on the wall.  I also added a mini fridge, Microwave, Coffee Pot, Toaster all on a bakers rack.  And I added pictures to the walls.  It really looks so nice.  I bought new bedding for the bed as well plus new towels.   Last night, we had our first traveling Scrub Tech move in.  I am hopeful this will be a good experience.  And I have one more room in my house that I am almost done getting ready to rent out a...
